The Razzies Nominations 2011

As Awards season really kicks into gear, even the worst cinematic disasters cannot escape reluctant recognition, with the announcement of the infamous Razzie nominations. Since 1981 the Golden Raspberries Awards have been stealing the Oscars thunder by naming and shaming the most awful films and performances of the year, the day before the Oscars praise the best.
Much like their proud Academy Award cousins, this year’s Razzie nominations are dominated by a few “special” films.  The Last Airbender leads the embarrassed pack this year, with eight nominations in every category of shame possibly available to it. M. Night Shyamalan’s impressive efforts to destroy a vastly popular cartoon series on the big screen will not go unrewarded. As if killing off a lucrative franchise with a dire first offering “Golden Compass Style” isn’t its own reward.
Sex and The City 2’s regrettable Middle Eastern shenanigans earned it five nominations.  Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler’s rom-com The Bounty Hunter is also punished with four nominations. Finally, Twilight Eclipse finds itself awkwardly sitting alongside its own abysmal parody Vampire’s Suck in number of categories.
